Tools You’ll Need
Tools you'll need
Nothing fancy – just:
- A spirit level or laser level
- Tape measure
- Pencil
- Wood adhesive (or double-sided tape if you’re renting and need to keep your walls pristine)
- Caulking gun
- Decorators caulk or wood filler
It will be useful to refer to your original layout plan to remind yourself of your chosen spacing between panels.
That’s it. We’ve designed the whole process around standard tools most people already have at home.
STEP
ONE
Prepare Your Wall
Give your wall a quick once-over:
- Fill any holes
- Sand rough patches
- Wipe away dust
This takes about 20–30 minutes and makes a big difference to your final finish.
STEP
TWO
Mark Your Height & Layout
Use your level to mark the height of the top of your panelling around the wall. It’s worth repeating the measurements to make sure everything is correct before marking the wall with your pencil.
Using your width spacing calculations, measure and mark out where your first panel should start.
Tip: A laser level makes this step unbelievably easy, but a classic spirit level works perfectly too.
Tip: Masking tape can be a useful way to mark walls without pencil marks
STEP
THREE
Assemble Your Panel
Piece your panels together like a jigsaw. Our little bow-tie joints slot into each panel end for a neat and secure finish.
STEP
FOUR
Fix the Panels
- Apply adhesive to the back of your first panel
- Start from one corner of the wall, fixing the top of the panel to your marked height on the wall and starting at the marked width spacing point.
- Measure out your required spacing between your panels and mark on the wall where your second panel needs to start.
- Apply adhesive to your second panel and work your way across the wall
Repeat until the wall is complete.
If you have a dado rail: fix it directly to the wall at your marked height using wood adhesive.
